Falcon Alert System FAQ

What is Friends University Falcon Alert?
Friends University has partnered with Rave Mobile Safety, the leader in mobile safety, to offer an emergency notification system, Falcon Alert, capable of sending users text and email messages.

What type of messages will I receive?
Friends University will only send you email and mobile text messages related to emergencies. Messages will be sent to the email addresses of everyone in the Falcon Alert system in addition to mobile text messages to your mobile phone, if you have provided one. You will never receive advertisements, and your information is never provided to advertisers.

What if I want the alert to go to another email account, different from my campus email?
If you are staff, faculty or a student of Friends University, the email messages can only be sent to your campus email (NAME@friends.edu or NAME@student.friends.edu).

Who can subscribe/use the service?
All students, staff and faculty members of Friends University will automatically be enrolled in the Falcon Alert service. You must opt out of the service if you do not want to receive emergency notifications. Faculty and staff can opt out by submitting a form to the Office of Human Resources. Students can opt out by submitting a form to the Office of the University Registrar.

What mobile phone carriers are supported?

All U.S. mobile carriers are supported.

What if my cell phone number changes?

If your mobile number ever changes, you must contact the University and update your contact details. Students must update their information with the Office of the University Registrar. Faculty and staff must update their information with the Office of Human Resources.

What if my cell phone provider changes?
If you keep the same mobile number, and simply change cell phone provider, you do not have to change anything. However, it may take several weeks for your mobile provider to update the Falcon Alert system. During that time it is possible that you will not be able to receive messages.

Will I receive advertisements or text messaging SPAM?
No, never. We respect your privacy and you will never receive anything besides official Friends University communications.

Who do I contact for assistance?

If you need assistance, please contact the Campus Security office at 316-295-5911; the Office of Human Resources at 316-295-5864; the Office of the University Registrar at 316-295-5400.

How will I identify incoming messages from Falcon Alert?
You will be sent messages from what are known as short codes. The messages will come from either 67283 or 226787. We encourage you to save these numbers into your phone so you will recognize them when messages are sent. Some smaller carriers do not support short code messaging. For these carriers, you will receive messages from @getrave.com.

How do I stop getting messages?

Students, faculty and staff must opt out of the emergency notification system in order to stop getting messages. Faculty and staff can opt out by submitting a form to the Office of Human Resources. Students can opt out by submitting a form to the Office of the University Registrar.

What if I adjunct/teach at a location other than the three campuses (Wichita, Lenexa, Topeka)?
You should notify the institution/business location where you teach and ask to be added to their ENS system.

What if I go to class at a location other than Wichita, Topeka or Lenexa?
You should enroll in the institution’s ENS where you attend classes. Information on who to contact at our outreach locations will be forthcoming.
