Program Design

Depending on each student's work experience, undergraduate preparation, and personal goals, individual objectives of MMIS graduates will vary. Because each student selects an area of emphasis within the program of studies, he or she will generally choose an emphasis that will promote accomplishment of his or her objective.

Foundation — Technology and management theory form the foundation of the program of studies. From that foundation, students develop and exhibit:

  • Research skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Life-long learning skills

    Core — Core Information Technology courses provide students with opportunities to develop and apply concepts in a variety of technology areas. Each student selects an area of emphasis upon which to concentrate throughout his or her program of study. Areas of emphasis may include (but not limited to):

  • Database management
  • Decision support systems
  • System policy and security
  • Systems analysis and design
  • Network administration

    Integration — Integration courses provide a framework to blend management principles and concepts with information technology. In these courses, students synthesize knowledge and skills gained from foundation courses, core courses, area of emphasis, and professional experience into a major project that culminates the program of study.

    Career Paths — The MMIS program supports both traditional and emerging career opportunities in Information Technology. Management of information is core to virtually all sizes and types of organizations and industries. Program Graduate career examples may include:
