About the Director: Dr. Mark Sanborn

Commitment to the Mission
of Friends University

Traveling each year to Friends University campus sites throughout the state of Kansas provides a unique opportunity to interact with students who are working adults from diverse backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and have varied educational needs. In working with these students, Dr. Sanborn fosters an ethical, non-threatening learning environment that celebrates the contributions of each student, promotes their individual success, and encourages their quest for life-long learning.

Teaching Philosophy
As an educator in the field of Information Technology, Dr. Sanborn

  • Strives to keep current with technology innovation and incorporate that learning in the classroom
  • Endeavors to create an active and relevant classroom environment to enhance student learning
  • Offers classroom activities that integrates program coursework and facilitates our students ability to transfer knowledge throughout their studies and into their work environments
  • Endeavors to create an environment that meets individual learner needs in a diverse student population
  • Considers student success a measure of his own success

    Dr. Sanborn holds an Ed. D. in Instructional Technology and Distance Education, Masters of Business Administration with emphasis in Information Systems Management, and a BS in Computer Information Systems. As an advocate and practitioner of life-long learning, Dr. Sanborn is current working on a Ph. D. in Information Systems at Nova Southeastern University.

    He is active member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and participates in several Special Interest Groups related to his research topics of interest. He is also a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), the International Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines
