Master of Business Law

Dixie Madden
Director of the Master of Business Law program

From:  Dixie F. Madden, Program Director

Welcome to the Master of Business Law page at Friends University. Although there are a number of master of law programs offered in various parts of the country, Friends is the first university to offer such a program in the Wichita area. Students in the MBL program complete 12 classes over a two-year period, attending class one night a week. The first MBL class started in August 2004.

MBL students acquire legal knowledge and develop analytical skills typically available only to students in a three-year juris doctor program. The MBL program also develops skills in decision making, dispute resolution and ethics. MBL students also closely examine the regulatory framework governing the business sector of their choice through their final research project.

Examples of people who might benefit from the MBL program include but are not limited to business managers, small business owners, sole proprietors, investors, entrepreneurs, franchisees, accountants, teachers, engineers, consultants, real estate professionals, office managers, banking managers, compliance personnel, human resources personnel, legal assistants, medical and legal administrators, politicians, lobbyists and government employees.

The MBL program provides students an exceptional opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge and skills for application in business settings. However, the MBL program does not provide students or graduates with any of the credentials required to take a bar examination or practice law.

If you wish to learn more about the business-related laws and legal issues which arise in personal and work environments, but are not prepared to enter a juris doctor program, this program would be a great addition to your credentials!

Sincerely,

Dixie Madden, J.D., LL.M.
