While graduate legal education historically has only been available to students in a juris doctor program, the value of master’s level legal education is gaining recognition. With its master of Business Law (MBL), Friends University joins more than 25 other colleges and universities in the country now offering a master’s degree in legal education in one or more disciplines.
Friends University selected
business law as the concentration for its first master’s in law program to honor Willard Garvey, in whose memory the Garvey Institute of Law at Friends University was founded in 2003. Garvey's conviction that men and women with a legal education make more effective business leaders, led him to dedicate a tremendous amount of time and resources to bring graduate legal education to Wichita.
With its business concentration, the MBL program benefits a diverse group of individuals in business, professional or personal settings, including;
-Individuals who work with the law and want to expand their knowledge of the law
-Individuals who work with lawyers and want to work more effectively within the legal arena
-Individuals who want to expand their career objectives in a direction which involves working more with the law
-Individuals who want to broaden their base of knowledge for personal or business reasons by learning about the law.
The Master of
Business Law is offered by the graduate School with the
support of the Garvey Institute of Law. The MBL is an intensive
program of study, which prepares students to identify and address
business-related legal and ethical issues. However, the MBL program
does not provide students or graduates with any of the credentials
required to take a bar examination or practice law.
