Admissions Requirements

In addition to the requirements stated under the Friends University Graduate Admissions Policy, the requirements for admissions to the Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES) are as follows:
  1. Complete a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with
    • 3.0 or higher GPA.
  2. Fulfill the following prerequisites:
    • Minimum of 8 credit hours of biological sciences.
    • Minimum of 8 credit hours of physical sciences.
    • College algebra or calculus.
    • One computer course or demonstrated computer competence.
  3. Submit an essay stating your academic and professional background, your professional goals, and how you feel the Master of Science in Environmental Studies program can help you achieve those goals.
  4. Interview with the program director.
  5. Provide one academic and two personal references.
Selection preference will be given to professionals whose employment, by its nature, deals with the natural environment and educators who teach about the environment.

* Provisional Admission: Students with a GPA less than 3.0 and/or are lacking one or more of the prerequisites can appeal to the MSES Committee for provisional admission consideration. If the committee recommends provisional admission, the student must complete the first two courses of the program with a B average or better and satisfactorily fulfill the provisions set by the committee.
