MAT 505 Teaching Strategies for Diverse Learners
Examines contemporary issues of culture and their influence on learning. Representative topics include: family life, religious diversity, multiculturalism, student behavior and school issues. The course will help develop an awareness of issues of family life in America, ways to address the needs of all students, and an understanding of professional ethics and educational equity.3 credit hours

MAT 522 Assessment and Evaluation of Learning
Focuses on the development of skills in using assessment information to make appropriate educational decisions for evaluation and measurement of learning. Included are the examination of assessment as a multifaceted process, preparation of classroom tests and other forms of authentic assessment, and application of assessment practices in classroom teaching. 3 credit hours

MAT 525 Action Research for Teachers
Provides educational research skills for the elementary or secondary teacher as both consumer and producer of action research. The focus is on understanding of research terminology, critical interpretation and application of educational research, and production of a proposal of an action research project within the teacher’s classroom. 3 credit hours

MAT 530 Current Issues in Education
Examines current educational issues and innovations in the context of their impact on student learning. Students are encouraged to utilize critical thinking techniques to make philosophical decisions and take a stand on the issues. 3 credit hours

MAT 535 Advanced Curriculum Design
Focuses on designing and evaluating aligned curricula that will use multiple learning and assessment methods. 3 credit hours

MAT 540 Advanced Educational Psychology
Examines developmental aspects of school-age persons with special attention to the teaching-learning process, learning theories, and persistent problems and issues in education. Students apply their findings to classroom instructional practice. 3 credit hours

MAT 545 Technology for Educators
Integrates the use of current technology into classroom instruction and management. Topics include, but are not limited to, Internet, multimedia, networking and grade level appropriate software. 3 credit hours

MAT 550 Teacher as Change Agent
Focuses on school reform through empowerment of teachers to positively influence systematic change and continuous school improvement. Effective teaching and learning strategies relating to the use of technology, motivating students and creating dynamic learning environments as well as the importance of professional development, curricular reform, organizing for effective practice and data-based decision making are emphasized. 3 credit hours

MAT 560 Action Research Project
Focuses on the application of research skill to address a problem or need in the teacher’s classroom. The written Action Research Project is completed during this module. 3 credit hours

MAT 590 Seminar
Provides the graduate student with a forum to present a portfolio of classroom applications from aspects learned in the MAT course work. Included in the presentation are the findings
