The Music Education program at Friends University prepares students to teach music in grades PreK-12, both vocal and instrumental. It is a four-year program that includes student teaching at both elementary and secondary levels. Graduates are licensed to teach by the state of Kansas after successfully completing the degree and passing the Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam (PLT). Other requirements include a 2.75 grade point average with no “D” grades in the major, a piano proficiency test and a recital. The degree has been designed by music educators to develop teachers with the latest skills and techniques of teaching music.
