Political Science/History

The Political Science/History major focuses on teaching students not just the basic history and operations of our system of government and the issues and ideas which attend it, but also on training them in the speaking, reading, writing, debating and research skills upon which an active involvement in our democracy and the duties of citizenship in general depend. As all of us are political beings and citizens of one polity or another, these are skills which any of us may have a need to rely upon, no matter what our beliefs or occupation.

The Political Science/History major prepares students for study at the graduate level in the related areas of political science, law, public policy, public administration, business and organizational management and behavior, as well as preparing them for possible careers in politics, community organizing, legislative research, campaign management and fund raising, corporate work, social work and advocacy, government service, and numerous other fields.

Alumni Highlight

“I would definitely recommend that they go to a place like Friends University and at least inquire about it. What they would learn is that it’s not as difficult as they think. It can be intimidating … but the rewards, in my opinion, are great.”
