The major in Spanish Education at Friends University is the major for you!
The Spanish Education program at Friends University prepares students to teach Spanish to grades PreK-12. This four-year program includes an internship during the fall semester of the senior year. Students are encouraged to study abroad. Graduates are licensed to teach by the state of Kansas after successfully completing the degree and passing the Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam (PLT). Other requirements include a cumulative 2.75 grade point average with no “D” grades in the major.
A Unique Program
No matter what your proficiency level with the Spanish language, Friends University has a challenging and life-changing program for you. The University offers courses at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Students are also encouraged to study abroad. Our sister university relationship with La Salle University in Cancun allows us to offer a language and culture immersion experience in Mexico each summer. Kappa Phi, the Friends University chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the national Spanish honor society, has won Outstanding National Chapter 11 times since 1992. As a Spanish Education major, you will take coursework in both Education and Spanish and learn how to share your love of the Spanish language and culture with others.
