Fall workshops will be available beginning Oct. 1, 2010, on the Wichita campus; Oct. 9, 2010, at the Lenexa Education Center; and Sept. 25, 2010, at the Topeka Education Center. Educator Professional Development Day

For the past 22 years, Friends University has sponsored the Summer Workshops for Teachers Program. In response to teacher need, the program has grown from 13 offerings to more than 80 offerings on the Wichita campus with additional workshops available at the Lenexa and Topeka Education Centers. The Graduate Workshop Program strives to meet the needs of busy educators by providing a growing number of meaningful opportunities not only through the summer but into the fall and spring. The workshops can be used to fulfill state license renewal requirements for school personnel.

Participants will be able to select classes that apply to their specific content area or grade level and address areas of interest or need. The diversity of offerings allows teachers to experience some of the many educational opportunities available within the community. In addition to workshops at Friends University, sessions at the Sedgwick County Zoo and the Great Plains Nature Center offer educators the chance to explore some of the area’s most popular attractions while also learning new, innovative teaching ideas.

On-campus classes offer hands-on opportunities and new methods to encourage activity and use of higher-order thinking skills while integrating math, language arts, science and social studies topics. Participants will also discuss and learn strategies that will assist them in improving student relationships, instruction, classroom management, assessment and technology. These classes offer research-based strategies for educators from all grade levels and subject areas on ways to help all students achieve their personal best in the classroom.

Alumni Highlight

“I would definitely recommend that they go to a place like Friends University and at least inquire about it. What they would learn is that it’s not as difficult as they think. It can be intimidating … but the rewards, in my opinion, are great.”
