Institutional Scholarships

All of the institutional aid listed below is available for enrolled, full-time students new to Friends University beginning Fall 2016 in the College of Business, Arts, Sciences and Education (CBASE).  Returning students will be kept at their current funding levels.


Academic Scholarships

Freshmen Awards

Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen. Each recipient will be awarded $12,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 3.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Davis Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen. Each recipient will be awarded $10,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 3.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Tower Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to admitted freshmen. Each recipient will be awarded $7,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.5. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Falcon Award

This award is given to admitted freshmen. Each recipient will be awarded $5,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Promise Award

This award is given to admitted freshmen. Each recipient will be awarded $3,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires satisfactory academic progress. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Transfer Awards

Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to transfer students who have a 3.5 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $8,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 3.5. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Davis Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to transfer students who have a 3.0 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $6,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 3.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Falcon Award

This award is given to admitted transfer students who have a 2.5 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $4,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.5. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.

Promise Award

This award is given to admitted transfer students who have a 2.0 CGPA. Each recipient will be awarded $3,000 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Withdrawal from the University automatically cancels the scholarship and it cannot be renewed.


Additional Institutional Scholarships & Awards

Alumni Scholarship

Each year the Friends University Alumni Association awards a $1,000 scholarship to four first-time freshmen who have a 3.0 GPA and whose parent(s) is a graduate or former student of Friends University (defined as having completed 12 credit hours).

To be considered for this scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year, please download instructions and the application form. The deadline for applications to be considered for the 2016-17 academic year is Feb. 26, 2016.

Legacy Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to first-time freshmen and transfer students who are a son or daughter of a Friends University graduate or former student who has completed at least 12 credit hours at Friends University. Applicants must have a high school CGPA of at least 2.0. Each recipient will be awarded $200 per year. Renewal of the scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0.

Athletic Scholarships

Scholarships will be awarded to students who show special abilities in athletics. The amount of the award is variable. Renewal of this scholarship requires a 2.0 CGPA and faculty recommendation.

Church Match Scholarship

Friends University will match any church scholarship to a student up to $500 per year. Students should submit their request to the governing body of their home church. Renewal of this scholarship requires continued church participation and a CGPA of 2.0. Competitive academic scholarship recipients are ineligible for this scholarship.

Fine Arts Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who show special ability in fine arts. The amount of the award is variable. Renewal of this scholarship requires a 2.0 CGPA and faculty recommendation.

Institutional Work-Study

Students needing work to help pay for educational expenses may apply for on-campus employment in the Student Development Office.

LEADS Scholarship Program

First year students interested in service and leadership are encouraged to apply. Students must have a 2.5 GPA and complete the online application to be considered for the program. LEADS program participants receive $500 per semester their first two years in the program and then $1,000 per semester their third and fourth years. The mission of the LEADS program is to develop student leaders through service-learning and leadership, equipping them with the skills necessary to impact local, regional and global communities. Outcomes of the program should include appreciation of diversity, commitment to social justice, demonstrated active citizenship and an increased sense of vocation.
What participants can expect:

  • Year 1 – monthly leadership class, group projects, on-going self-assessment
  • Year 2 – group projects, service hours initiative, develop E-portfolio, choose Year 3 project
  • Year 3 – live in LEADS housing, year-long service project, one-on-one advising, group projects, maintain e-portfolio
  • Year 4 – live in LEADS housing, teach Year 1, group projects, present Year 3 project

Ministerial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to dependent students of ministers actively engaged in a pastorate or serving as missionaries. Each recipient will be awarded $1,000 per year, not to exceed the institutional maximum. To apply, please submit a letter from the church confirming pastorship or missionary service. Renewal of this scholarship requires a CGPA of 2.0. Competitive academic scholarship recipients are ineligible for this scholarship.

Dual Credit Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to new enrolled full-time students in the College of Business, Arts, Science and Education who have previously completed dual credit through Friends University.

Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) Scholarship

The Wichita Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) Endowed Scholarship Honoring James Arbertha gives a prospective student the opportunity to get an education, thereby securing hope for a future that impacts us all. Recipients of the Wichita Alumni Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship Honoring James Arbertha may likely be the first in generations of their families to pursue higher education.

AAB Scholarship Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 17-22.
  • The scholarship will be in the amount no less than 50% of the current academic year tuition and fees and will be applied toward tuition, textbooks, or on-campus room and board.
  • Applicants must have resided in the “eligibility region” for a minimum of 12 months.
    • Southern boundary: 9th St.
    • Eastern boundary: Hillside St.
    • Northern boundary: 28th St.
    • Western boundary: to follow Interstate 135 south to 13th St.; at that location, the western boundary shall extend further west to Wabash St.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and/or ACT composite score of 18.
  • The scholarship will be renewed on a yearly basis so long as the student maintains an overall GPA of 2.5.

All institutional scholarships and grants require a minimum high school CGPA of 2.0 for freshmen and a college CGPA of 2.0 for transfer students for initial eligibility.
