Ballet

The Friends University Ballet program has established itself as a regional leader and outstanding program of excellence. Under the direction of Stan K. Rogers, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet is one of only a handful in the nation. Come and enjoy the traditions of our Fall and Spring Ballets and our annual production of "The Nutcracker."

FALL 2011 EVENTS

FALL BALLET
Oct. 7-8, 2011 @ 7:30 p.m.

The Fall Ballet will include two new ballets and two ballets that have been favorites in the past. Misty RasconSmith, Los Angeles choreographer, created a Jazz Ballet specifically for the Friends dancers.

Misty has worked with Christina Aguilera, Pink, Britney Spears and Snoop Dogg. A new ballet by James Wallace, Artistic Director of the Denver based David Taylor Dance Theatre, will also be showcased. His company is one of the best contemporary ballet groups in the Midwest. The Fall Ballet will also include an encore performance of “Solace” by Melonie Buchanan which premiered last Spring as well as a revival of the beloved Bizet ballet, “Carmen Suite”, with choreography by Friends University Ballet Director, Stan K. Rogers. This is sure to be an exciting performance.

Friends University and Wichita Ballet Theatre present the full-length holiday favorite "The Nutcracker," featuring local dancers and ballet majors at Friends University.

The guest artists for December 10-11 will be Melody Herrera and Connor Walsh from Houston Ballet. December 16-18 performances will feature guest artists Wendy Whelan and Tyler Angle, principal dancers with The New York City Ballet.

SPRING 2012 EVENTS

SPRING BALLET: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

A new and lavish ballet production of the classic comedy by William Shakespeare with new scenery and costumes. Director, Stan K. Rogers, will direct and choreograph this beloved story with music by Felix Mendelssohn. The comic love plot is wrought by fairies and magic. The fairies maneuver the events in a human love story while they, at the same time, are engaged in difficulties of their own. A classic tale for all ages.
