Friends University’s Ballet Department will host auditions for its spring ballet, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” from 5-6 p.m. Jan. 11 in the ballet studios in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University Campus. Auditions are for children 9-13 years old.
When you walk into Riney Fine Arts Gallery between Nov. 28 and Dec. 18, be prepared to be a bit uncomfortable while viewing artist Aaron Frondorf’s intaglio printmaking exhibit.
“I want to make those who are comfortable, uncomfortable; those who are uncomfortable, laugh; and those who are already laughing, comfortable through the validation of their shortcomings,” Frondorf said.
A Tower Wind Quintet Recital will usher in the holiday season with a musical performance at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
The quintet will tell the story of Hansel and Gretel with assistance from drama professor Dr. Charles Parker and story pictures projected on a screen. Additionally, holiday music will be performed, including selections from the “Nutcracker.”
The Friends University Jazz Department will host “Green Chemistry at Friends University” on Nov. 21.
The evening will start with a lecture by the noted Boston, Mass., Green Chemistry expert, Dr. John Warner at 6 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s room C-6. Following the lecture, the Friends University Student Government Association will host a short “green reception” in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Art Gallery.
