Holiday Recital Appeals to Audiences of All Ages

A Tower Wind Quintet Recital will usher in the holiday season with a musical performance at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

The quintet will tell the story of Hansel and Gretel with assistance from drama professor Dr. Charles Parker and story pictures projected on a screen. Additionally, holiday music will be performed, including selections from the “Nutcracker.”

Candlelight Concert Rings in Christmas Season

Friends University’s talented students will perform the traditional holiday concert with all the vocal exultation and festive jubilation that audiences have come to expect of the annual performance.

The 2011 Christmas Candlelight Concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2-3, and 3 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

New York, Houston Dancers to Perform in ‘Nutcracker’

A holiday tradition comes alive as Friends University presents its annual showcase of “The Nutcracker,” complete with Sugar Plum fairies, a mouse king and a handsome prince.

“The Nutcracker” will be performed at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10; 2 p.m. Dec. 11; 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16-17; and 2 p.m. Dec. 18 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

Jazz Department Hosts Green Chemistry Night

The Friends University Jazz Department will host “Green Chemistry at Friends University” on Nov. 21.

The evening will start with a lecture by the noted Boston, Mass., Green Chemistry expert, Dr. John Warner at 6 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s room C-6. Following the lecture, the Friends University Student Government Association will host a short “green reception” in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Art Gallery. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.

Horn Quartet to Debut During Chamber Orchestra

Friends University’s Horn Quartet will be making its debut performance during the Chamber Orchestra and Brass Ensembles Concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

This musical performance will include not only the Horn Quartet, but also the Brass Quintet, Tuba Quartet and Trumpet Ensemble.

Friends University Community Orchestra and Choir Celebrate American Music

ACTS of FAITH to Present ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’

Audiences are invited to follow a passionate traveler on his flight from destruction to find the promise land in the original two-act play, “Pilgrim’s Progress,” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17-20 in the Davis Administration Building’s Alumni Auditorium.

Friends University’s ACTS of FAITH will be presenting a new comic adaptation of Patrick Dorn’s poignant 17th century classic by John Bunyan. Though originally produced by Denver’s The Troupe in 2008, this will be that production’s Kansas premiere.

Singing Quakers Alumni Join Together for Classics Concert

Friends University’s faculty members will showcase their diverse musical talents in the Faculty Brass Quintet Concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

The concert will be comprised of four brass instrument professors: Dr. Gary It’s sure to be a reunion of epic proportions, as more than 70 alumni of the Singing Quakers will come together in a Concert of American Classics at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Road in Wichita.

Brass Quintet Features Talented Friends’ University Faculty

Friends University’s faculty members will showcase their diverse musical talents in the Faculty Brass Quintet Concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

The concert will be comprised of four brass instrument professors: Dr. Gary Leopold on trumpet, Denise Kintzel on horn, Steve Slater on trombone and Dr. John Taylor on tuba. Also performing will be trumpeter Dana Hamant, who is the band director at Wichita East High School and trumpeter in the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.

Vocal and Instrumental Students Join Forces for Jazz Concert

The Friends University Jazz Department will present a concert that will feature both vocal and instrumental jazz students. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

The Friends University Jazz Vocal Ensemble, directed by Craig Curry, will perform a variety of jazz standards and the Friends University Jazz Ensemble II, under the direction of Lisa Hittle, will conclude the concert.

Tickets costs $8 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 316-295-5677.
