The artistic talents of Friends University’s students and staff will be on display for all to see at the 2011 Spring Semester Friends University Student and Faculty Art Show. The works are on display through Jan. 31 in the Riney Fine Arts Center. There will be a Final Friday reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28.
Prospective high school students will take part in Friends University’s Fine Arts Showcase from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Riney Fine Arts Center. Students and parents are welcome to attend, and they are invited to stay after lunch if interested in certain department activities such as ballet class and individual meetings with Sharon Rogers, Jazz Band rehearsal and Percussion Ensemble rehearsal.
The Friends University Division of Fine Arts is pleased to present “Damn Yankees” Jan. 20-23 in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20-22 and 3 p.m. Jan. 23.
The Friends University Ballet Department and the Wichita Ballet Theatre will present six performances of the full-length holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10-11 and 2 p.m. Dec. 12. The second weekend performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17-18 and 2 p.m. Dec. 19.
The performances feature more than 85 local dancers and ballet majors at Friends University. The first weekend also features guest artists Melody Herrera and Connor Walsh, both principal dancers with the Houston Ballet.
The Friends University Singing Quakers will present their annual Christmas Candlelight Concert Dec. 2-5 in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2-4 and 3 p.m. Dec. 5.
The concert will feature the Singing Quakers and Women’s Chorus under the direction of Dr. Mark Bartel and the Concert Choir directed by Rolaine Hetherington. The 200-voice Friends University Choral Union will also sing selections collectively.
The Friends University Jazz Department is proud to present Wayne Bergeron with the Friends University Jazz Ensembles at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center.
Bergeron is currently one of the most active jazz trumpet players in the world. He is a former lead trumpet player for Maynard Ferguson and is the current lead trumpet player for Gordon Goodwin’s Phat Band. He has recorded on more than 300 TV and movie soundtracks.

The Wichita Community Children’s Choir will present their winter concerts at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at First Baptist Church, 216 E. Second St., and at 4 p.m. Dec. 12 at First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway St. All tickets are $5 at the door.
Under the direction of Dr. Cecil J. Riney, the Singing Quakers Alumni Choir will perform “A Concert of Choral Classics” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church located at 1958 N. Webb Road in Wichita. Dr. Dan Forrest will be the featured guest composer; and Tracy Resseguie, a 1990 graduate, will be the featured guest conductor.
Tickets are $12 for adults, and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets may be reserved through the Friends University Fine Arts Office or purchased at the door.
