The Friends University Community Orchestra welcomes the winners of the Miller Concerto/Aria Competition and the Wichita Area Piano Teachers League Competition as guest soloists for a concert titled “Showcase.”
The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 15 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
Student directors, producers and actors will have the opportunity to stage their talents at the annual Student Directing Showcase at 7:30 p.m. April 9, 3 p.m. April 10, and 7:30 p.m. April 21. All performances will be free and open to the public in the Cornerstone Studio Theatre in the Riney Fine Arts Center.
As part of the Producing and Directing the Stage Play course offered at Friends University, students will perform one-act plays.
From here to there, from now to then, music is said to transcend the barriers of language, culture and time.
Enjoy an evening of music from around the world as the Concert Choir presents its spring concert, “A Musical Offering: The Many Colors of Music” at 7:30 p.m. April 8 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
The Friends University Student Chamber Ensembles will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. April 4 in Sebits Auditorium. The following night, the Friends University Percussion Ensemble will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. in room C-6. Both concerts are in the Riney Fine Arts Building on the Friends University campus.

Young musicians from across Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri will converge at Friends University to compete for $11,000 in awards during the 2011 Naftzger Young Artist Auditions and Music Awards April 2-3 at Riney Fine Arts Center. The competition will bring 48 talents who will compete for a single $5,000 prize, plus $2,000 prizes in each of the three divisions – piano, instrumental and voice.
The final Friends University Jazz Department concert for the spring semester will be 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in Sebits Auditorium. The “Sr. Night” concert will feature and pay tribute to our graduating seniors in both jazz ensembles. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. The 2011 Singing Quakers Home Concert theme is “Ye Shall Have A Song,” and song is what the group shall have.
The annual concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 26 and at 3 p.m. March 27 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. The Singing Quakers will present their usual array of variety in this concert, including music from their upcoming spring tour to Canada.
