Music's ability to bring us all together is a re-occurring theme in a new documentary that highlights a Friends University jazz trip to Cuba in December 2012. Nineteen Friends University jazz students traveled to Cuba as the only college jazz ensemble invited to play at the Havana International Jazz Festival. The trip was recently highlighted in a 30-minute documentary that aired Aug. 25 as part of the show "It's All Good with Sierra Scott" on KSCW in Wichita. An exploration of the connection between emotion and motion will be displayed at the Riney Fine Arts Center Aug. 16 to Sept. 16.

Aaron Krone, son of Friends University professor of art Ted Krone, will present his creations, which delve into interconnected cogs of the human experience.

Well-known Wichita jazz artist and Friends University professor Lisa Hittle will be a featured performer at a concert to benefit Shriners Hospital for Children.

Hittle, director of the Friends University jazz department and assistant professor of music, will join the Midian Shrine Million Dollar Band DanceKatz and the Senseney Music Community Band in this special performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Wichita Scottish Rite Center auditorium at 332 East 1st Street.

Friends University is pleased to announce the opening of Eclectic, featuring artwork by Friends University faculty, students and recent graduates, at Exploration Place’s Bridging Art and Science exhibit (located on the indoor bridge) through October 2013. The campus community and the general public are invited to an opening reception that will take place Friday, June 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Various pieces using different media will be shown – including acrylic, mixed media, digital photography, linoleum block prints, embossing and digital graphics.

Nathan Patrick’s photography will be on display June 3 to July 26 in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery. There will be a final Friday reception June 28 from 5-7 p.m.

Patrick is an artist who has experience in many medias. In addition to serious professional pursuits, he has dabbled in stand-up comedy, poetry, book writing and photography.

Join us for an old-fashioned outdoor summer band concert as the Concert Band joins the Senseney Music Community Band for a day of marches and traditional tunes at 3 p.m. May 5. The concert will take place on Rose Window Plaza, directly in front of the Davis Administration Building.

Tenor Earnest Alexander will perform in this free concert. There will be a free-will offering to benefit Youth Horizons.
