Wichita photographer Paula Moore aims to capture the beauty of the world through her camera lens.

Inspired by great-American photographer Ansel Adams, Moore says on her website that she hopes viewers of her art will “feel the passion coming from my camera into your heart.”

Moore’s photographic art will be displayed March 11 through April 12 in the Friends University Riney Fine Arts Center’s Art Gallery.

The public is also invited to a Final Friday reception on March 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit and the reception are free.

Friends University’s Soulstice took home top honors from the University of Kansas Jazz Festival March 1-2 in Lawrence, Kan.

Soulstice was named Best College Jazz Group at the festival, earning them a $1,500 award, a trophy and the privilege of opening for guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel at the March 2 headliner concert.

The spring Chamber Orchestra Concert will feature two Friends University faculty soloists at 7:30 p.m. March 14 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

Faculty violist Kay Buskirk will be performing Paul Hindemith’s “Trauermusik,” and faculty guitarist Randy Zellers will be performing Daniel Racer’s “Concerto for Electric Guitar and Chamber Orchestra.”

This concert is free and open to the public.

Former Black Eyed Peas saxophonist Tim Orindgreff will take the stage during Jazz Night at 8 p.m. March 13 in the Casado Campus Center. Also performing will be the Friends University’s Jazz Combos. This fun night of free jazz is open to the public.

The Friends University Riney Fine Arts Gallery is currently displaying the artwork by Stacy Renee from Feb. 11 to March 8 with a reception is schedule from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 22 in the gallery. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Stacy paints mostly on Masonite and “imbues into the work the quality of simplicity, but also complexity of colors and shapes.”

New Friends University Assistant Professor of Applied Music/Voice Dr. Paul Brodene Smith will make his debut Singing Quakers performance at 7:30 p.m. March 9 and 2 p.m. March 10 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. An operatic tenor, Smith will perform several selections with the Singing Quakers.

Friends University’s famed Singing Quakers will sing a range of choral classics, including folk songs, gospel, and traditional songs for this year’s Home Concert.

Enjoy an engaging evening of chamber music featuring the Tower Wind Quintet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Riney Fine Arts Center's Sebits Auditorium at Friends University. The quintet will perform works by Piazzolla, D'Rivera, and August Klughardt.

Special guests Dr. James Knight on piano and Susan Mayo on cello will join Tower Quintet flutist Amy Hoffman to perform “Voice of the Whale” by George Crumb.

Area high school, middle school and junior college jazz bands will come to Friends University to celebrate the 20th annual Jazz Festival from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15-16 in the Riney Fine Arts Center.

A Jazz Vocal Invitational Concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 will feature several college-level jazz choirs from the Wichita area. This concert will be in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
