Sean O’Loughlin, renowned wind band composer, will conduct several of his works with the Concert Band on Mon., Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. O’Loughlin will be joining the Friends University Concert Band as the 2012 Composer/Conductor-in-Residence.
O’Loughlin has been commissioned by the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Los Angelas Philharmonic and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He also has collaborated with Sarah McLachlan, Adele, Hall and Oates, and Harry Connick Jr.
Come dance to the big band sounds of Friends University Jazz Ensemble at 8:30 p.m. Sat. Oct. 27 at the Crown Uptown Theatre, 3207 E. Douglas. The doors will open at 8 p.m. and music and dancing will go until 11 p.m.
There will be a silent auction to benefit the Friends University Jazz Ensemble’s trip to Cuba (cash or check only) in December. Hors d’oeuvres, desserts and cocktails will also be available for purchase throughout the evening.

Take a step back to the late 1950s and enjoy the homecoming musical presentation of “Curtains” by the Friends University Theatre program. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and 20 and 2 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. Tickets are $16 for adults and $13 for seniors and students.
Come out to the Friends University Casado Campus Center to listen to the renowned jazz guitarist Jerry Hahn perform with the Friends University student combos. This event will take place from 8 until 10 p.m. on Oct. 17 in Casado’s lower level. Enjoy trying out our new Jazzman’s Café and Bakery while you enjoy some great live jazz music.
Casado jazz night is free and open to the public.

The Friends University Ballet Department is celebrating 25 years of outstanding ballet productions and the state’s only Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet program. The Ballet Department will kick off its 25th year with Fall Ballet of Favorites performances Oct. 5 and 6, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. The year’s performance schedule will feature the Fall Ballet of Favorites, The Nutcracker and the Spring Ballet.
The Friends University Riney Fine Arts Center Art Gallery is featuring artwork by Friends University alumni. The gallery exhibit opened Sept. 10 and runs through Oct. 12, 2012. A Final Friday Reception will take place Sept. 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Another night of great Friends University jazz combined with lush string backgrounds is back by request. The kickoff to Friends University’s jazz season will feature both students and faculty at 7:30 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

Friends University’s Fine Arts faculty will present a fanfare of art and music at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20, 2012 in the Riney Fine Art Center’s Sebits Auditorium in Wichita.
Friends University’s diverse group of artist and teacher faculty professors will share music, drama and visual arts as they inspire new and returning students. The 75-minute exhibit and show is also an opportunity for the community to experience the creative and diverse faculty professors in the University’s Division of Fine Arts.
The exhibit and recital are free and open to the public.
