Open House to Highlight Library’s Updates and Renovations

Friends University’s Edmund Stanley Library will be showcasing some summer renovations at an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 19.

“We’ve made some major changes over the summer,” said Jeanette Parker, serials librarian. “We have new computers, new furniture and new arrangements.”

The open house will include guided tours, a scavenger hunt, games, refreshments and a drawing for a Kindle e-reader.

Davis Building Clock Chimes Again

Passersby and students at Friends University may have recently noticed a familiar sound emanating from atop the Davis Administration Building – a sound we haven’t heard for over two years.

The building’s clock tower is again keeping time and chiming its dulcet tones high above campus, warning students that class will start soon, signaling lunch and serenading faculty and staff on their way out the door at the end of a long day.

Loesch Named Presiding Clerk of Friends United Meeting

Friends University graduate Dr. Cliff Loesch, pastor of University Friends Meeting, has been honored with an additional, global ministry: serving for three years as presiding clerk of Friends United Meeting.

Friends University Hosts Colvin Elementary Academic Enrichment Day

Approximately 125 Colvin Elementary School third-graders will participate in a variety of campus activities as part of Friends University’s annual Week of Welcome Service Day, Aug. 22.

Colvin Elementary School students will learn the importance and excitement of attending college while interacting with approximately 300 incoming freshmen and transfer students.

Stay Informed with Friends University's Falcon Alert

Summer Workshops for Teachers Now Posted

Friends University’s summer workshops for teachers begin May 31 and run through July. The workshops offer opportunities for pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade educators to recertify, in addition to learning new skills and sharpening old skills. Gown Town Offered Free Dresses for Prom Attendees

Prom is a rite of passage for many high school students – an expensive one, at that. And one that is out of reach for many area students.

To help many high school girls who couldn’t otherwise afford a prom dress, Friends University hosted Gown Town April 2 in the Casado Campus Center’s McKay Gymnasium. All area high school students were invited to select from more than 1,000 donated gowns after registering at the door. Seamstresses were on hand to provide alterations to the free gown, and various prizes and coupons were given out.

Psych Fair Draws High School Students to Campus

More than 400 high school students from across Kansas visited Friends University to get a grasp on the practical applications of psychology.

Friends University hosted the third annual Psych Fair April 3 in the Casado Campus Center. More than 75 volunteers were on hand to work with high school psychology students from as far away as Salina.
