Our staff includes:
Nathan — a senior majoring in Psychology and Religion. He is our resident expert on everything — including how to take care of all of your lawn and garden needs. Nathan enjoys a lively debate on any issue, so even if you don’t have a problem with your writing, stop by for conversation on any hot topic.
Julie — a senior majoring in Elementary Education. With her experience at Pizza Hut, Julie is able to toss a pizza, play her flute, and look over a rough draft all at the same time. She is also one of several getting married this summer, so if you’re in need of an expert opinion on weddings, she will help you.
Bethany — a junior majoring in English and drama with a music minor. She is heavily involved with the performing arts here at Friends—singing, acting, working with the stage crew, involved in the Drama Club, etc.). She is our “Cinderella” and will marry this summer.
Heather — a junior majoring in elementary education. After class, she also works part-time for the math department, public relations office, the Writing Center, and Dillons. Heather’s favorite pastime is sitting through rain, sleet, snow, and various other crazy Kansas weather conditions to watch K-State football!!
Jennifer — a freshman majoring in youth ministry with a minor in music. Her hobbies include participating in her youth group, singing, writing poetry, and being outdoors fishing or biking. Although many have heard stories about “preacher’s kids,” she is not like any of them.
Sarah — a senior majoring in Psychology and Christian Studies. Aside from classes, she enjoys being involved in Campus Ministries, the Writing Center, and Residence Life as a Student Assistant. Her favorite pastime is dissecting the newest edition of the APA manual just for fun.
Andrea — a sophomore majoring in English Education. She loves theatre, music, and literature—but what she really, really loves is sitting at home drinking Folger’s Instant Latte and watching “Law and Order.”
Matthew — a freshman whose first love is theatre, but literature is a close second. Consequently, he is a secondary education English major with a drama endorsement. He enjoys backpacking and going out for coffee with friends during his free time (of which there is none).
Janel — a senior who is crazy enough to double major in secondary English education and music. In her spare time, she leads a Flock Bible study group, reads, jogs, and goes to Krispy Kreme for donuts with her friends.
Tawni — a sophomore majoring in music and minoring in religion and philosophy, is another new staff member to the Writing Center. Were it not for her desire to graduate in a moderately reasonable amount of time, she would probably be tackling at least two more minors—drama and English.
Callie — a sophomore majoring in secondary social science education. She enjoys playing volleyball, eating, listening to matchbox twenty, and spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time, Callie is testing her sanity and earning some extra cash as a substitute teacher.
Josephine — a sophomore in the PACE program working towards a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Although Josephine is returning to school after 25 years, she is a sponge---just soaking in as much as she can. Her enthusiasm is contagious.
Connie — a teacher of ESL (English as Second Language) at Friends U. ’87-’90, and taught EFL (English as Foreign Language) for private schools in Greece for 8 years. She is married to a Greek merchant marine officer currently circling the globe.
Kay - our resident “mother.” She takes care of everyone’s needs and helps them improve their writing, all at the same time. Kay teaches a variety of composition and education classes here on campus too. She will be eager to help you on any Thursday.
Carrie — our faculty member and dog-lover. She teaches a variety of TUG and PACE courses and lends a helping hand to students here in the Writing Center. Her spare time involves both of her kids---dogs (Dylan and Walt). Passing obedience school is her number one priority for them.
Marcia — our staff computer wizard. Any questions you might have in regards to working a computer, she has already asked. Marcia has worked with international students for years in the Friends English Language School. Along with lending her writing expertise, she is a Master Gardener administrator through the Sedgwick County Extension Service.
Carol — the Writing Center Assistant Director. She keeps busy teaching a variety of writing composition classes, giving workshops, and handling the affairs of the Writing Center. Her spare time is spent traveling to see her daughter play college basketball and playing tennis. In fact if you need help on a Thursday morning, you will have to find her on the tennis court.
Connie — the Writing Center Director, Chairman of Religion and Humanities Department, and English department faculty. Although many of her other departmental duties take her away from the Writing Center, her heart remains with us, and her expertise is greatly appreciated. Her spare time is spent racing to Garden City to keep up with her two grandsons.
