Friends University will Premiere a New Ballet by Alumna Melonie Buchanan Murray

The Friends University Ballet and Wichita Ballet Theatre will present their Spring Ballet March 4-5, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. and March 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m, in the Riney Fine Arts building in Sebits Auditorium at Friends University.

Spring BalletPremiering the spring show is a new ballet by Friends University Alumni, Melonie Buchanan Murray who is an Associate Professor in the Ballet Department at the University of Utah. This new piece is titled “A Subtle Coercion of Liberties” with music by Arvo part. A Quartet of women will be performing contemporary pointe work. Murray said, “The inspiration for the concept came from the writing of French philosopher Michel Foucault.”

The spring performance will include the outstanding production of “The Firebird” choreographed by Stan K. Rogers, Associate Professor of Dance at Friends University. “Blue Diamonds” with music by Karl Jenkins, originally presented in Spring of 2015, and also choreographed by Rogers and will be performed.
