The gorgeous architecture of buildings, the enriching history, the aromas of tantalizing foods, the famous monuments and the overall atmosphere are some of the countless reasons to visit England and Scotland. Friends University will offer graduate students an opportunity to visit these two European countries.
For the first time, graduate students can enroll in a course to travel to London and Edinburgh in 2010. While London is the planned destination, Edinburgh, Scotland, is an optional location for an additional week. Travel dates for London are July 20-27 and July 28-Aug. 4 for Edinburgh.
London sights will include the Imperial War Museum, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, the British Museum, the British Library, Abbey Road, Victoria & Albert, St. Paul’s and Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and St. Martin in the Fields Theatre. Scotland provides such sights as St. Giles, Holyrood House, Edinburgh Castle, Prince’s Street, and St. Andrews and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Housing expenses for a week in London are $600. An additional $600 per person is required for the optional week in Scotland. Airfare is $1,200-1,400.
A meeting for orientation and planning will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Davis Administration Building, room 111. If you plan to attend, please be prepared to pay a $200 deposit. Practical information such as packing, money and safety issues will be discussed at a meeting April 11. The remaining $400 will be due on that date as well as the $600 if adding Edinburgh to your travels. The last meeting will be June 13, and travel document distribution and finalization of all plans will be established.
