The Friends University Ballet Department and the Wichita Ballet Theatre will present six performances of the full-length holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11-12 and 2 p.m. Dec. 13. The second weekend performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18-19 and 2 p.m. Dec. 20.
The performances feature more than 85 local dancers and ballet majors at Friends University. The first weekend also features guest artists Melody Herrera, a principal with the Houston Ballet, and Dominic Walsh of the Dominic Walsh Dance Theatre in Houston, who is a 13-year guest performer with Friends’ Nutcracker production.
The second weekend features Wendy Whelan and Philip Neal, both principal dancers with The New York City Ballet. Underwriting for guest artists is funded by the Fred C. and Mary R. Koch Foundation.
Stan K. Rogers, director of the ballet department, has been at Friends University for 21 years. Rogers is the recipient of the 2008 Arts Educator of the Year Award from the Wichita Arts Council. Friends University has presented the full-length Nutcracker performances since 1995.
“As always, this production will be a great gift to this community and a great heartwarming experience for the holiday season,” Rogers said.
Tickets for each performance are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Call 316-295-5537 for tickets or more information.
