Adults laugh only 15 times a day. Preschoolers laugh 450 times a day. There is so much a teacher can still learn. Workshops can give teachers the opportunity to refresh, re-certify or learn a new skill, even if that new skill is how to put more laughter, joy and humor in their life.
Meeting the needs of busy educators, Friends University will be offering a number of spring workshops to address the needs of PreK-12 teachers across a number of content areas. Spring workshops will be available beginning Jan. 23, 2010, on the Wichita campus and Jan. 29, 2010, at the Lenexa Education Center.
These insightful workshops will cover topics at the Lenexa site such as stress reduction and stress elimination techniques, an in-depth study of the causes of disruptive student behavior, how to energize existing math and reading curriculum, classroom management strategies, the changing classroom demographics, instructional strategies for students at all learning levels, the changing sociological factors affecting education, and finding humor in the classroom and in life. A number of Denny Dey workshops are also being offered beginning Feb. 6.
Wichita is offering workshops with topics such as how to use PowerPoint; the life, times and enduring legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder; behavior supports and strategies; art journals for teachers; understanding what motivates writers; using digital storytelling to learn any subject; SMART Boards; working with special needs children in an inclusive classroom; and how to organize the classroom, lesson plans and life. Denny Dey will also present a “Useful Picture Books” workshop Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.
