Lori Wright is currently displaying artwork through Feb. 21 in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery in the Riney Fine Arts Center on the Wichita campus. Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be a Final Friday reception at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29. The reception is open to the public, and light snacks will be served.
Wright fell in love with art at a young age. Each year, her parents would give her art supplies for Christmas. Growing up surrounded with art, it was natural for Wright to take a career path in art.
Wright received a bachelor’s degree in photography from Emporia State University and a master’s degree in drawing from Kansas State University.
Wright said that after graduate school she “really began to explore the world of mixed media artwork.”
She enjoys “combining different materials together to create unique imagery.”
Currently, Wright is an assistant professor of art at Kansas Wesleyan University.
“Throughout my work you should see a theme of life, identity and connection,” Wright said. “I create narratives from these themes which any viewer should be able to relate to or interact with. I want people to see how extraordinary the simple things in life truly are. Everything around us is ultimately another opportunity to tell another story.”
