The Friends University Community Orchestra is delighted to welcome two outstanding young artists, Mary Detrick and Katie Henderson, as guest soloists for its concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center. Detrick is the Wichita Area Piano Teachers League Competition winner, and Henderson is the winner of the Miller Concerto/Aria Competition.
The concert will also showcase Franz Liszt’s remarkable tone poem “Les Preludes,” Bizet’s “L’Arlesienne Suite No.1” and Johann Strauss’ tribute to his beloved Vienna Woods. An informative and entertaining pre-concert talk will take place at 7 p.m. for audience members to hear from the director to help them enjoy the concert even more.
“I am excited about the music and our outstanding soloists,” said Richard Roller, music director. “This performance will be one of our very most entertaining, and I can’t wait to get on the stage.”
