Falcons to Compete at Nationals in Basketball, Track

After winning the KCAC Championship Tournament Tuesday, men’s basketball has its sights set on the NAIA National Tournament.

The Falcons will travel to Point Lookout, Mo., to compete in the 19th Annual NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament. The single-elimination tournament will consist of 32 teams and will take place March 10-16.

The Falcons (25-6) will open in the first round against No. 9 Bethel College Indiana (27-6) at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 10.

Track and Field
The Friends University Track and Field teams have sent a record number of athletes to compete today through Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn., at the 2010 Indoor National Championships.

The Falcons will kick off the competition this afternoon with Jordan Arnold, Karissa Cominator, Matt Ditzler and Dan Neidlinger in the 5,000 meter semi-final. Arnold and Ditzler are both ranked fifth on the final entry list.

Two relays will also compete Thursday evening: Allen Shockley, Cole Hancock, Michael Gurley and Tim Patterson will run the distance medley relay while Lanae Kidd, Megan Shepherd, Sara Wiebe and Kristie Adams will run the 4x800 semi-final.

Friday’s action will include Megan Shepherd in the 600 meter semi-final, eighth ranked Lanae Kidd in the 800 meter semi-final and Damian Berry in the 400 meter semi-final.

In addition to all of the finalists, three field event competitors will wrap up competition on Saturday afternoon. Quentin Benning will throw the shot put while Doug Pierce and second ranked Sara Wiebe will compete in the triple jump and high jump, respectively.

The women’s distance medley relay team of Lanae Kidd, Sara Wiebe, Megan Shepherd and Taylor Doll ran a national qualifying time of 12:56.56 this season, but that relay will not compete. Christopher Steen clocked a 7.01 in the 60 meters at Missouri Southern, but will also not compete.
