Friends University will present a Harpsichord Dedication Concert at 3 p.m. April 18 in the Riney Fine Arts Center Gallery. This event is free to the public.
Dr. James Knight, assistant professor of piano, said it is a great pleasure to be able to perform on two harpsichords, which were built by Willis Overholt of Wichita. The acquisition of the two keyboard instruments comes as the result of a collaboration among Friends University music faculty members and Overholt. An anonymous donor provided the core funds for these two major purchases.
“It is my hope that the concert will reflect the many uses that these harpsichords will have in presenting works of the Baroque and Modern periods of music,” Dr. Knight said. “Faculty and students alike will benefit from the educational and musical attributes of these instruments. It is my hope that audience members enjoy this performance and many others utilizing this important keyboard instrument of the Baroque period.”
