Kansas Association for Family and Marriage Therapy Awards
Each year, the Kansas Association of Marriage and Family Awards (KAMFT) Board chooses to recognize the work of therapists in Kansas. Two Friends University alumni and a director of the Lenexa’s Family Therapy Program received honors this year:
State Competition of Business Professionals of America
Two business education majors, Holly Rutter and Adam Klausmeyer, accompanied by Assistant Professor Marilyn Jones, assisted with the state competition of Business Professionals of America (BPA) this spring. They judged, graded and rated high-school and community-college students on various business events. The winners competed at the national BPA convention in Anaheim, Calif., later in the spring.
Super Regional Convention
Two members of the Friends Alpha Chi chapter attended the Super Regional Convention at the end of March in Little Rock, Ark. Ashley Bergner presented a journalism paper, and Holly Pilcher was the chapter delegate. Sponsors Dr. Sarah Evans and Marilyn Jones attended as well. Jones judged business presentations for monetary awards given. The group took along books this year in part of the convention literacy program for younger children, and they visited the Clinton Presidential Center and Central High Historic Site, a key location for the civil rights movement.
Teacher of Promise
Friends University student Rachel Bowers, art education, received a Teacher of Promise award this spring. She received a certificate from State Superintendent of Education Diane DeBacker.
Great Plains Students’ Psychology Convention
Four psychology students placed at the 30th annual Great Plains Students’ Psychology Convention in late March. College and university students from seven states were represented. For the first time, every student from Friends University took home an honor:
