The Friends University Division of Fine Arts is pleased to present “Damn Yankees” Jan. 20-23 in Sebits Auditorium in the Riney Fine Arts Center. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20-22 and 3 p.m. Jan. 23.
Joe Boyd, a middle-aged real estate agent and life-long fan of the Washington Senators, would sell his soul to the devil for the chance to see his favorite baseball team win the pennant. He is granted the unique opportunity to return as a young superstar for a season if he does not look back. It is Dr. Faust meets National League Baseball! Along the way, the Devil/Mr. Applegate and his dutiful diva and minion Lola have other plans in mind. Will Joe rise to the task and see his team to victory, or fall to tumultuous temptation?
This beloved musical comedy with a heartfelt story and memorable characters and songs is based upon the novel, “When the Yankees Lost the Pennant.” Originally produced on Broadway, it was later made into a feature-film and a television movie. Following successful revival, a new adaptation with an all-star cast is soon to be a major motion picture (produced by special permission with Music Theatre International).
Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for senior citizens and students. For more information, call 316-295-5677.
