String Day Brings Student Musicians to Friends University
High-school and middle-school students from across the state will converge on Friends University for a day of instruction, camaraderie and performances for String Day from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Riney Fine Arts Center.
String Day, which was previously exclusive to cellists and known as Cello Day, was expanded this year to include all string musicians.
“High-school and middle-school string players come with pre-formed ensembles to receive an afternoon of coaching and workshops from Friends University faculty and students,” said Susan Mayo, adjunct faculty.
There will be an opening recital at 1 p.m., featuring Friends University faculty and students. This recital is free and open to the public. At 7 p.m., in the Sebits Auditorium, student ensembles will perform in a competition, and winners will be chosen for best high-school group and best middle-school group.
