Friends University Jazz Fest Honors Black History Month
The 18th annual Friends University Jazz Festival will be held on Feb. 18-19 in Riney Fine Arts Center on the Friends University campus in Wichita.
The two-day event will bring 26 high-school and middle-school jazz groups from across the state of Kansas to perform and participate in jazz education workshops. All daytime sessions are free and open to the public.
The headliner concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 will pay tribute to Black History Month. Featured artists will include Dennis Wilson on the trombone, Dr. Willie Hill on the saxophone and Dr. Darryl White on the trumpet. The featured artists will be backed by the Friends University Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Lisa Hittle.
Tickets for the concert cost $15 for the general public, and $12 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased by calling 316-295-5677.
