The 2011 Singing Quakers Home Concert theme is “Ye Shall Have A Song,” and song is what the group shall have.
The annual concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 26 and at 3 p.m. March 27 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium. The Singing Quakers will present their usual array of variety in this concert, including music from their upcoming spring tour to Canada.
Not only is “Ye Shall Have a Song” the Singing Quakers concert theme, but it is also the closing chorus of American composer Randall Thompson’s “The Peaceable Kingdom,” which was inspired by the painting of the so-called “Preaching Quaker of Pennsylvania.”
“Home Concert represents the musical core of what the Singing Quakers do — challenging and diverse music written just for choir. No bells and whistles, said Dr. Mark Bartel, professor of music at Friends University. “As such, the program features gospel, classical, folksongs, traditional, spirituals, avant-garde and a variety of languages, all to showcase the beauty and power of the many human voices united, to move our hearts, minds and spirits.”
Tickets for the concert cost $15 for the general public, and $12 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased by calling (316) 295-5677.
