The Friends University ballet department will present its annual Fall Ballet performance at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7-8 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium at Friends University.
The ballet will feature two guest artists: Misty Rascon-Smith of Los Angeles, and James Wallace, artistic director of David Taylor Dance Theatre.
Rascon-Smith has worked with pop artists Christina Aguilera, Pink, Britney Spears, and Snoop Dogg. Her piece, entitled “The Orchestrator,” has a hip-hop, jazz and funk feel that accentuates the program’s versatility in dance forms.
Wallace’s piece, “Continuum,” is a world premiere mixing classical ballet with contemporary movement similar to the style of his company based out of Denver.
Resident artistic director Stan K. Rogers will premiere the new work, “Dance Suites,” to the music of Ottorino Respighi. The piece features three couples in the neo-classical ballet style.
The concert will include an encore performance of the ballet, “Solace,” choreographed by Melanie Buchanan, which received much acclaim in the University’s 2011 Spring Ballet.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for senior citizens and students. For tickets or more information, please call the Friends University Fine Arts Office at 316-295-5677.
