Lawrence, Kan., artist Elizabeth Rowley is on a continuous quest to find and showcase the reality of the world.

“I try to truly see – not just look – at the spaces I am in every day. And then I translate this visual information to the spaces I create,” said Rowley. “I can only hope that this search for the real will be a constant reminder of why I continually search and strive for these real experiences.”

Rowley will be the featured artist at October’s Final Friday exhibit at the Riney Fine Arts Gallery at Friends University. Her exhibit will be on display from Oct. 17 to Nov. 18. A Final Friday reception will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the gallery.

Rowley works primarily in encaustic and oil. Her bold, thick applications, whether abstract or evoking Kansas landscapes, call forth strong emotional responses from the viewer.

The artist obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wichita State University, and is currently a working artist in Lawrence.

This exhibit and the Final Friday reception are free and open to the public. For more information about this exhibit or any other Fine Arts events and performances, please call the Friends University Fine Arts Office at 316-295-5677.
