O’Brien’s book is a combination of interconnected, fictional short stories based on O’Brien’s own experiences while fighting in Vietnam. The book was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award.
In addition to the author’s lecture, Edmund Stanley Library is also hosting a discussion of the book from noon to 1 p.m. in room 201 of the library Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Thursday, Nov. 3. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch, and the Library will provide beverages and cookies.
This is the fourth year that Friends University and the Library have participated in The Big Read – Wichita. The program was established nationally by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to restore reading to the center of American culture.
