Friends University alumni, faculty, staff and students will participate in the second Run with Friends activity – the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis Dec. 3.
“We created the Run with Friends group due to interest within the Friends University community to have a strong university presence in community events and to promote a healthy lifestyle among our alumni, faculty, staff and students,” said Susan Arant, wife of Friends University President T.J. Arant. “Anyone associated with the University is welcome to become part of the group. Our goal is to have our Run with Friends group participate in several races per year.”
Arant said the group plans to host a run on campus this spring and is exploring participation in other community races as well. The group’s initial venture was the Prairie Fire Marathon Oct. 9. Approximately 150 people associated with Friends University participated in the races that day.
Arant urges alumni, faculty, staff and parents to participate in the races Dec. 3. Participants need to officially register and pay the registration fee with the Arthritis Foundation at http://jbrwichita.org. After they officially register, participants should sign up on the Friends University website at www.friends.edu/run to be part of the Run with Friends group. The University is also seeking volunteers to help staff the water station during the race/walk and a booth at the Health Fair. Anyone participating for the first time in a Run with Friends event is eligible to receive a Run with Friends technical t-shirt as long as supplies remain available. Race participants are also asked to bring an item from the Arthritis Foundation’s wish list, which is available at www.friends.edu/run.
