Friends University’s talented students will perform the traditional holiday concert with all the vocal exultation and festive jubilation that audiences have come to expect of the annual performance.
The 2011 Christmas Candlelight Concert will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2-3, and 3 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
This year’s Candlelight Concert will feature the Singing Quakers, Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, Madrigals, Kantorei and the 200-voice Choral Union, and will close with the premiere performance of a brand new work by composer Craig Curry.
“This year we have a piece we commissioned for the Choral Union (the combined choirs) by our own Craig Curry. It's a wonderful arrangement of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful,’ which will be performed in the second half of the concert. The concert is always closed with the traditional ‘Silent Night’ with the singers surrounding the audience,” said Rolaine Hetherington, assistant professor of voice at Friends University.
Hetherington said this performance will be a wonderful way for audiences to kick off the holiday season.
“There is a great variety of music this year, both ethnic and from different traditions and styles. It will be a veritable smorgasbord of music to feast upon. This is one of the most delightful ways to start your holiday celebration so get your tickets early before they are sold out,” she said.
Tickets to the performance cost $15 for adults, and $12 for senior citizens and students. For more information on this performance or other Fine Arts events, please contact the Fine Arts box office at 316-295-5677 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
