Holiday Recital Appeals to Audiences of All Ages

A Tower Wind Quintet Recital will usher in the holiday season with a musical performance at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

The quintet will tell the story of Hansel and Gretel with assistance from drama professor Dr. Charles Parker and story pictures projected on a screen. Additionally, holiday music will be performed, including selections from the “Nutcracker.”

The Tower Wind Quintet, comprised of Friends University faculty, was formed in 2001. Since that time, they have given annual recitals, performed frequently at KMEA conventions, commissioned several new works, given master classes and recitals in schools across the state, and performed at many community events.

“This is a very unique concert because it is geared toward families so that children can enjoy the wind quintet in a very entertaining way,” said Amy Hoffman, adjunct professor of music. “We've tried to provide something for everyone. The length and programming of concert as well as the reception with gingerbread cookies and ‘meet the instruments’ are meant to encourage a different audience to come hear us.”

This performance is free and open to the public. A festive reception will follow in the lobby and younger children are invited to a “meet the instruments” display where they can see musical instruments up close and spark curiosity for the future.
