6-Foot Tall Rabbit to Grace the Stage in ‘Harvey’

A funny bunny will take the stage in the Friends University production of “Harvey” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

Who wouldn’t want a 6-foot white rabbit for a best friend? Mr. Dowd’s family wouldn’t, that’s who! It’s awkward and embarrassing to even speak of such things. Mr. Dowd would be better off taking his fanciful imaginings to a mental hospital. However, that might only complicate things when others meet Mr. Dowd and his friend. For decades this hilarious and insightful Pulitzer Prize play, by Mary Chase, has been an audience delight.

Friends University students will be starring in the production, which will be directed by Dr. Charles Parker, associate professor of drama at the University.

Parker said the dramatic comedy will appeal to all ages.

“The characters in this play are delightful; but above all, Elwood P. Dowd is not only funny, but also one of those characters who can make audiences seriously reflect on how they might better engage others with kindness, respect and courtesy,” Parker said.

Tickets to the performance cost $8 for adults, and $5 for seniors and students. For more information on this performance or other Fine Arts events, please contact the Fine Arts box office at 316-295-5677 or finearts@friends.edu.
