The Friends University Fine Arts Division would like to invite audiences to the fifth annual Friends University Choral Connections at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Riney Fine Arts Building’s Sebits Auditorium.

Choral Connections offers high school and college students an exceptional and intensive musical experience under the leadership of nationally renowned experts in choral singing. It allows visiting high school and college students as well as Friends University students to hear each other perform, and to learn and perform together.

This year our guest conductor is Keith Hampton, D.Mus. Dr. Hampton (affectionately known as “Doc”) is a conductor, composer, educator, church musician, organ performer, adjudicator, and workshop clinician. Classically trained as an organist and as a conductor, Dr. Hampton has taught students from nursery through college levels. In 2010, the North Central American Choral Directors Association selected Dr. Hampton as one of the top 25 Contemporary Composers.

The guest performer is Wichita’s own Earnest Alexander. Earnest is a graduate of Friends University, where he traveled with the Singing Quakers. He graduated with a bachelor of arts in vocal performance. Earnest has devoted his life to serving the Lord and reaching out to troubled and at-risk children.

The evening’s concert will include spirituals, gospel music, contemporary Christian music, and will feature the Kansas premiere of Dr. Hampton’s arrangement of Kurt Carr’s gospel piece “Be Blessed.”

Tickets to the performance cost $15 for adults, and $12 for seniors and students. For more information on this performance or other Fine Arts events, please contact the Fine Arts box office at 316-295-5677 or
