In only her second year as head coach at Friends University, RaeAnne Boothe led her team to victory over The College of Idaho 69-54 in the first round of the State Farm-NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship. This is the fourth appearance for Friends University and their first ever victory at the NAIA national tournament.

“All credit goes to the players,” said Boothe, “They all played with a tremendous amount of heart and with a confidence that is unusual for a first-time national appearance team.”

Junior Abby Fawcett continues to be an offensive power for the Falcons. She led the way shooting 5-for-12 from behind the arc finishing with 25 points. Sophomore Jessika Crews had a strong performance recording a double double with 10 rebounds and 10 points. Despite being hurt, Junior Abril Marshall added 12 points shooting 5-for-6 from the field.

The Falcon (24-9) advance to the second round in the 2012 State Farm-NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship. They will take on No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan (32-2) at 10:15 a.m. Friday, March 9 at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

“It’s an honor to be here and we are excited to have a couple more guaranteed days together as a team. We very much appreciate the support from Friends University and especially those that cheered us on [at the Casado Campus Center],” said Boothe.
