Kansas teachers will have the opportunity to sharpen their teaching skills and fulfill certification requirements during summer teaching education workshops offered at Friends University.

The workshops are offered at the Wichita campus, and the Lenexa and Topeka educational centers and include topics such as organizing the classroom, beginning Microsoft Publisher, “Making Math Engaging,” and “Brain Breaks = Happy Students.”

Classes are available throughout the summer on a first-come, first-served basis.

“You can sign up until the day before the workshop, but already some workshops are full or filling up quickly,” said Sarah Strole, administrative assistant for education workshops. “Participants should sign up now to ensure their spot.”

One new feature of this year’s offerings is confirmation of attendance opportunities for para-educators, counselors, therapists and additional education support staff seeking professional training.

“Confirmation of attendance points can be used as Continuing Education Units for those advancing their professional development, if approved. Not all education support staff positions require graduate credit, but they still require continuing professional development,” said Lisa Schmidt, director of graduate workshops.
