Colvin Elementary School students will learn the importance of a college education from more than 300 Friends University freshmen and transfer students.
As part of the Week of Welcome Service Day Aug. 20, incoming Friends University students will have the opportunity to encourage and teach about 150 third-graders about the value of higher education.
“We’re really excited to bring this event to campus again this year,” said Brett McLaughlin, coordinator of residence life at Friends University. “Last year’s event was a huge success, and this year promises to be even better.”
Activities include lunch, reading, a fine arts showcase, education about each school’s mascot and games.
“We will continue to foster relationships throughout the year through tutoring and other activities,” McLaughlin said. “We hope to utilize the students of Friends University to be role models for Colvin Elementary students.”
