Ann Krone Named Art Educator of Year
After 44 years of teaching, Ann Krone still looks forward to walking into a classroom.
“Every day I look forward to teaching because I work with dedicated young people who are enthusiastic about art,” said Krone, adjunct professor of art at Friends University.
For her efforts in education, the Kansas Art Educator Association has recognized Krone as Outstanding Higher Education Art Educator of the Year for 2012-13.
Krone stepped into her first art classroom in 1968 in LeMars, Iowa.
“I taught art, music and drama to elementary students,” she said.
She came to Friends University in 1992. She teaches Painting I, Drawing I and assists students pursuing an art education degree. Krone credits her teaching success with actively engaging her students with content.
“I get positive feedback from students about my classes. They share their pleasure in their progress in written reflections about their improvement. My art education students keep in contact with me after they graduate. They may ask for teaching materials or may just want to share a success they’ve had in teaching,” Krone said.
The Kansas Art Educator Association honored Krone as part of a luncheon Oct. 27 at Wichita’s Scottish Rite Center.
