Community Orchestra Performance to Highlight Tragedy and Triumph

The Friends University Community Orchestra’s performance on Feb. 5 will allow listeners to experience the depths of tragedy and the heights of triumph through the music of Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Saint-Saens and Gershwin. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.

David Thacker, winner of Wichita Metropolitan Music Teachers Association’s High School Division Competition will perform the first movement of Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saens, and Amy Shelden, Friends University Miller Concerto Competition winner, will perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Dr. Wesley DeSpain will conduct.
