Internationally renowned clarinet soloist Julia Heinen will combine her talents with the Friends University Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Riney Fine Arts Center’s Sebits Auditorium.
Heinen will perform a major new work for band and clarinet solo titled “Black Dog” by Scott McAllister. This is based on the Jimmie Hendrix tune by the same name. Heinen will simulate the sounds of Hendrix improvising on the guitar while the band functions as a rock band in the accompaniment. She will also perform an old standard, “Clarinet on the Town” by Ralph Herman, as well as “Clarinet Polka” by Bruce Smith with the Concert Band’s clarinet section.
This concert will also feature music to be performed by the band at the Kansas Music Educators Association convention.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults, and $4 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased online at friends.edu/finearts or by calling the Fine Arts Box Office at 316-295-5677.
