Friends University is helping to make the dream of a perfect prom night into a reality with the third annual Gown Town event.

Area high school students are invited to attend Gown Town from 4 to 8 p.m. March 8, and 9 a.m. to noon March 9. Boys and girls will be able select from donated gowns, suits, and accessories that will be available free of charge. A seamstress will also be onsite to help with alterations.

“This is another great opportunity for the Wichita community, and really the entire surrounding area, to come to our campus and experience a few moments at Friends University,” said Brett McLaughlin, coordinator of residential development. “This is a great way for our University to make just one more impact in the community, by joining other organizations and giving these students an opportunity to have their own dress shopping experience for their special day.”

Students must bring their school I.D. to participate in Gown Town, and parents are encouraged to attend and share in the excitement with their student.

Last year’s Gown Town event attracted more than 450 participants.

Gown town is sponsored by Friends University, B98 FM, In the Bag Cleaners, Heads Shoe Store and Newton’s Princess Closet. McLaughlin also said special thanks are extended to Wichita USD 259 and the United Way of the Plains for their help with this year’s Gown Town.
