Nathan Patrick’s photography will be on display June 3 to July 26 in the Riney Fine Arts Gallery. There will be a final Friday reception June 28 from 5-7 p.m.

Patrick is an artist who has experience in many medias. In addition to serious professional pursuits, he has dabbled in stand-up comedy, poetry, book writing and photography.

Patrick shared in his artist statement, "When I take photographs I get in a 'zone' where the photographs and the experience of taking them is the only thing on my mind. I don’t feel pressured to get good shots; I don’t experience any distractions at all. When I am taking photographs, the whole of my conscious experience is engaged."

Patrick took his share of family photographs, but only a normal family-member’s share. It wasn’t until he began to travel that the pictures he took (mostly with disposable cameras) began to stand out. In 1994, at the age of 17, he planned his first road trip, visiting three states in two days. In the years since, he has traveled from Kansas to each coast several times winding his way through 40 of the 50 states, including two months studying inter-tidal life in Coos Bay Oregon. For the year of 1997 Nathan was stationed in 29 Palms, California while training as a radio repairman in the USMC. For the rest of his enlistment, he was stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he did two six-month tours of Asia, including stops in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, The Philippians, Thailand and Okinawa. He served for two months each in Korea and Australia. His pictures from that time show landscapes and people. In 2007, he began an ongoing relationship with the Wichita State University Dance Department from which much of this current material was culled, and through which a relationship with the greater Wichita State University Fine Arts Department was developed.

Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
